sugawara family {seattle family portraits}

Good gracious I love this family. They are the best. The. Best.

The best of friends. The best of parents. The best of kiddos.

I feel so fortunate to have been a part of the Sugawaras life for so long (I mean… WELL over 20 years at this point). They have brought so much goodness into my life in the form of laughter, good times, creative work, and the rare kind of friendship that is supportive, inspiring and meant to last a lifetime. I think it’s safe to say that we just get each other. I’ve had the privilege of photographing some of the biggest moments in their lives (engagement, wedding, maternity, newborn for both of their beautiful daughters…), so when it was time for our regular shoot this year we decided to do something a little different.

We headed down to Seattle to capture the family in action starting out at their restaurant, Suga, in Fremont. With kids ages 1 and 3, doing something that is fun for everyone is where it’s at for family portraits. Toddlers aren’t into posing for hours, but they are into sunny walks  with mom and dad that end with chocolate ice cream. And, bonus, we even got a few of big sister Madden in her dance costume. Photos like these are my favorite. Unposed, real, and exposing the beauty in our every day lives. It feels more like a time capsule, than a portrait session.
